The club was formed in 1992 to promote woodcarving across the two counties and to allow its members to share a common enthusiasm, cross-fertilize ideas and improve their carving skills.

We have a mixed membership of 30 plus.  Meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month between 12 noon and 3pm at Spotland Methodist Chapel Hall, Tenby St off Rooley Moor Road, Rochdale.     Wheelchair Friendly access.     There are some exceptions when attendance at shows and week-end exhibitions clash with normal meeting dates. There is an annual subscription of £30 plus an attendance charge of £1 for each meeting. Members are kept informed by a monthly newsletter.

The monthly meetings are varied. We have some really top-class speakers such as Howard Boyd who writes for carving magazines, Peter Benson chair of the British Woodcarvers Association and Michael Painter who is a nationally renowned Master Woodcarver and Sculptor. We also enjoy contributions from other excellent speakers as yet less well known, as well as presentations given by our own members. These all give rise to stimulating discussion and in depth questions.

We have visits from the West Yorkshire Woodcarvers from Huddersfield, the Northwest Carvers Association based in the Fylde, and the West Pennine Wood Turners. These joint meetings usually include an exhibition of the visitors' work which widen our experience of wood crafts and stimulates discussion.

We also exhibit and demonstrate at various shows around the region. These have included the  Bolton Museum and Art Gallery (Bolton), Ranger Day, Reach Festival, Woodland Festival all at  (Burnley) Woodfest (St Asaph), Woodland Festival (Blackburn),

The club caters for carvers of all levels of experience. We have workshop sessions when help and advice can be given on specific aspects on a one to one basis. We find that these are valuable to the experienced as well as the beginner. There is also an extensive library of carving books and videos that can be borrowed free of charge.

There is a wide diversity of styles of carving among our members, from miniature bone carving to work with a chain-saw. Most of us seem to develop an individualistic style and there is much to be learned from each other, both in techniques and in artistic approach.
Beginners can be sure of a friendly reception, with help and advice always available from more experienced members.
