Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

In his programme notes director Billy Sheerin expresses his delight that Snow White gives an opportunity for seven children to shine through in the important roles of the dwarfs and in this show they did not disappoint, St Gabriels pantomimes always have amusing local references all the elements of a traditional panto and a stage full of enthusiastic adults and children.

With David Butterworth and Andrew Dale as the narrators Brothers Grimm the story started to unfold. The amusing pair of Freddie and Fritz played by regulars Peter Wood and Simon Thompson had the audience rolling in the aisles, ably assisted by Mike Newton as Dame Nellie. Lady Rosamund, Lady Fiona and Lady Amanda worked well together as the story developed.

The King and Queen played by Tommy and Anne Ingham were excellent in their war of words and added some nice comedy touches to their characters.

Each dwarf had their own characterisation off to a tee and stole the audiences' hearts every time they made an entrance.

Siobhan McHale was a delightful Snow White and Bev Foster an effective Prince Peter. We were treated to the Ghost scene in the woods and of course Snow White's affection for the dwarfs before she bites the poisoned apple.

The three children's choruses need a special mention as they provided some delightful singing and dancing throughout.

The audience loved the evening's entertainment but it was obvious all the cast enjoyed every minute just as much.
