Milnrow Parish School Hall was bursting at the seams for the opening performance of Sinbad The Sailor. The audience was filled with anticipation as we set of on a magical journey to Constantinople. This exciting and colourful pantomime based on the most famous eastern story of all had lots for all ages with plenty of audience participation.
The Beryl Johnson Dancers got us in the mood sraight away with their opening number and were impressive throughout. Jon Comyn-Platt as Tinbad the Tailor warmed the audience up with his first entrance getting the children on his side straight away. He was helped by Geoff Williams playing Semolina Sinbad, a very glamourous dame. Peter Wardhaugh had excellent comic timing as Mustapha Kit-Kat and it was a shame we didn't see more of him. Sinbad played by the impressive Christina Wilson sets sails for the island of Nirvana in search of Princess Pearl played in true principal girl style by Charlotte Cox.
The princess has been stolen on her wedding day by Sinistro the sorcerer played by the evil Simon Ellis. Sinbad meets his love, Talida played with vulnerability by Frankie Young. Once on the island he has to overcome the evil magic of Peter Dignum as Crunchbones the witch doctor and Sue Taylor the priestess of the shrine. Julie Dignam took on the difficult role of the cruel Old Man Of The Sea, all before Sinbad accomplished his task. The show has lots of funny moments along the way and the production is helped by an effective set and colourful costumes.
