Rochdale has taken back the live music spotlight, after a brand new band night at the Broadfield Hotel attracted hundreds of music fans from across the borough on Friday 15 July.

After such an impressive turnout, both organiser Malcolm Journeaux and owner of the Broadfield Andy Kusytsch have confirmed that the event will continue monthly, with two bands per night. Malcolm said: "I have tried to find a suitable venue before, but always hit the stumbling block of either poor location, only midweek night's available or the cost far too prohibitive."

"However the reaction we have had from many local bands and music fans is nothing short of amazing, I'm really impressed."

The first bands to take to the stage were Crimson Scarlet and Urban Blue; both unsigned Rochdale based bands that write their own material. Alison, the lead vocalist of Urban Blue, said: "It’s pleasing to see so many people on the first night, I really enjoyed performing here. Everyone is lovely, and there’s no competing or anything it’s all for the music. I’ll certainly be back to watch the other bands anyway.”

Both bands were music to the ears for local music fan Sarah Cheetham, from Spotland, Rochdale. She said: “It’s been so long since we’ve had a good live music event that’s local, and the bands were excellent too. Plus, the younger people that don’t necessarily drive can come to Rochdale instead of travelling to Manchester. I was really impressed with the venue and the bands; I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t become even more popular in the coming months.”
