The Dave Donohoe Band

Local favourites The Dave Donohoe Band gave a better than expected August audience an entertaining evening of old favourites, plus one or two numbers rarely played! Vocals were shared by leader and trombonist Dave Donohoe, banjo/guitarist Malcolm Horne and drummer Bill Evans. Donohoe featured his two guest musicians, pianist Tom Kingaid who provided a “Boogie Woogie” version of ‘My Blue Heaven’, and reedsman Barry Aldous who neatly combined with the rhythm section in a fine clarinet arrangement of Gershwins ‘Lady Be Good’!

Bass player Keith Shone combined with Horne’s banjo accompanying Donohoe in ‘Shake It And Break It’ and trumpeter Dave Pogson lead the line well featuring in ‘Savoy Blues’, ‘Whistling Rufus’ and ‘Tipitipitin’.

And the unusual numbers – Donohoe’s speciality ‘Brahms Lullaby’, ‘Playles Hymn’ with Horne on banjo and Donohoe’s muted trombone, and their closing outro ‘Good Night Little Prince’. They even played an encore with the landlord’s approval – that’s what the sunshine can do!
